A Special Olympics Volunteer acts as the backbone of the Special Olympics movement. They can take the role of a coach, trainer, officials, event, fundraisers, and manager. They can also be unified partners – playing alongside athletes or be a fan cheering in the stands. Some of the core job duties are listed on the Special Olympics Volunteer Resume as – planning and supervising the games, practices, and events; supervising assisting coaches, managers, and team parents; teaching the young athlete the fundamentals of team sports, and necessary meetings, providing a safe and fun environment for the children, learning and following all league rules and policies and procedures; and attending all league functions and participating in league activities.
The nature of the job determines the needed skills, however, the following common skills are mandatory for all posts – strong communication and interpersonal, high level of enthusiasm and energy level; knowledge of the fundamental of team sports, and being patient with children. Formal education is not mandatory for this role.
Summary : Special Olympics Volunteer is Establishing partnerships and affiliates with regional health organizations, hospitals, universities, gyms/fitness centers, and agencies to implement Special Olympics Health opportunities including the Inclusive Health initiative and Inclusive Fitness Initiative. Recruiting health professionals and volunteers within the 8 disciplines to support HA activities by becoming either clinical directors or screeners.
